The Assassin's Enemy Lover

Chapter 361

He was extremely anxious and wanted to check on his only grandson but he couldn’t barge in. He had to wait until Zi Han came out by himself.

He almost grew roots standing there like a tall tree in a grassland. Just as he was about to knock and ask Zi Han if he was okay, Zi Han opened the door and handed his grandfather the light brain.

“Thank you,” he said his face with a little more colour than before. Thinking his grandson had gone back on his word and lured back by Yi Chen’s sweet words, Zi Feiji entered the room and as the door slid shut behind him he said, “You couldn’t do it could you?”

Zi Han pursed his lips as he nervously messed with his hair. His appearance right now made Zi Feiji feel distressed. His nose was red, his eyes red-rimmed and his hair slightly messy like Zi Han had taken out all his emotions on it.

AN: I don’t know why hair is always the victim.

“I did break up with him but he won’t hear it,” said Zi Han before he sighed deeply as he lay back on the bed.

He placed his hand on his forehead partially covering his eye as he asked, “I did my part, right? I won’t stain his career anymore.... right?”

Zi Feiji’s heart broke hearing this. He didn’t want his little grandson to feel this way about himself. He wasn’t a stain or someone’s black history. He was an amazing and intelligent person with great potential. The two just weren’t compatible that’s all.

.....

“You aren’t a stain on anyone. You two are just... how can I say this. You aren’t at that place where you can be together...,” he said and the two of them fell silent for a very long time.

Grandpa Zi suddenly felt the urge to talk about his past, a past he never talked about. It was a past, not even his daughter knew about.

“I... loved someone once. She was a very strong person with the most wonderful smile,” he said only for Zi Han to open his eyes wide and look at his grandfather like he had been possessed by another soul. His grandfather never talked about this at all.

Zi Feiji lay down beside him and waved his hand. A two dimensional image appeared above them. It was the face of a beautiful yet tough woman in a military uniform.

“She was amazing and I would just look at her from afar but never confessed because she had a partner. She didn’t notice me at all and I was fine with that,” he said his eyes showing a hint of nostalgia.

“My mother knew how I felt about her and told me to stay away from her so I did. I didn’t pursue it. I always assumed I would get over her.... eventually. Well, that is until one fateful night I met her at a bar. I was drinking with my friends and she just walked into the bar by herself. She looked like she was having a difficult time like she had fought with someone or something.”

“Look I don’t even know why I am telling you this story. It won’t help you feel better but I just think I should share it.”

Zi Han stared intently at the pictures and said, “Go on. I really want to hear it.”

Zi Feiji smiled riley and continued, “I kept watching her from across the room and wanted to talk to her. My friends urged me on. They were like ‘come on here is your chance’ and ‘you will regret not taking this rare opportunity so I downed four shots of the strongest drink on the table and got up. Mind you your great grandmother had already warned me about her but I disregarded everything she said and walked over there.”

“She remembered me and she actually said, ‘oh, it’s you. The one who stares at me a lot. You like me don’t you,’ so she knew I liked her and even invited me to sit. I was thrilled at this point that she was paying me attention so I sat down and we started drinking together. She mentioned how she and her girlfriend had broken up and that she was there to loosen up and temporarily distract herself from the pain of heartbreak. I was more than willing to keep her company and well that night things got very steamy.”

“We slept together and my stupid self thought we were going to be in a relationship. I would take responsibility and stuff but when I woke up she was gone. My heart was broken but what did I expect? So I toughened up and tried to get over it.”

“Well, two months later I find out that she went back to her partner and that she was pregnant. Because her partner didn’t want to have a baby that wasn’t theirs together she told her to get an abortion... When I told my mother what I found out she beat me with a slipper first then went to her and demanded that we get custody rights to the fetus.”

Zi Han turned his head to gaze at his grandfather and asked, “What happened to it?”

Zi Feiji showed a slight smile and said, “The courts forced her to get an operation and take out the fetus so we could continue the process in an artificial womb. That whole gene bank thing about your mother is false. She did grow inside her mother’s womb for the first two months of her life but I could never tell her about it. That’s because her mother threatened me that if she ever saw that child she will kill her for ruining everything for her. Because she was pregnant she missed the opportunity to be promoted to a higher rank. After that, I asked myself what I even saw in her in the first place. She was obviously a very bad person.”

“Did you ever see her again?” asked Zi Han and Zi Feiji sighed a little before saying,

“Yes. Years later she was injured during a mission in Micheline star which I also happened to be sent there for a rescue mission.”
