Without understanding the situation, none of them had the courage to recklessly send people to approach the lord. They could easily create trouble for themselves before they were clear of the situation.

“Those Black Fog Lizards... Hmm, I think they were called Black Jacket Geckoes.” Xu Heti mumbled the name over and over again.

“Yes. They were called the Black Jacket Geckoes in the Black Fog World.”

Xu Heti didn’t dwell on the name. “We requested to take a part of the Black Jacket Gecko’s carcass from the government so that we could study it. However, we found out that its flesh contained a lot of nutrients. Any monster that consumes their meat will go through changes in emotion, and at the same time, their blood pressure will increase.”

“The Labyrinth Watchers once said that these Black Jacket Geckoes were their source of food. Hence, it’s expected to contain high nutrients.” Gao Peng was lost in his thoughts. “Moreover, they also mentioned that the Black Jacket Gecko meat could be addictive if one was to consume too much of it.”

Xu Heti was stunned for a second before she nodded quietly.

They would have to discuss it once they got back. The real results could only be proven through precise data from research in the laboratory. However, the chairman had at least given them a direction. It would, at the very least, save a lot of effort for the people in the laboratory.

In fact, Gao Peng rarely conducted experiments personally nowadays. He handed over most of the cases to his subordinates, and he merely needed to provide vague directions. Xu Qingzhi was now able to produce most of the low-grade drugs under Gao Peng’s diligent training. All the reagents that were consumed by the familiars below Commander-tier were considered low-grade drugs by Gao Peng.

“Mr. Chairman, there’s something that I need to report to you. We were defeated at Changping, and we were only able to bring back the Fire of The Mysterious Underworld,” Xu Heti said solemnly.

“What do they have over there?” Gao Peng asked curiously.

“Ghost soldiers!” Xu Heti frowned. “Moreover, they’re led by a general who called himself Zhao Kuo. I’m not sure if it’s true that he has the power to absorb the healing abilities of the ghost soldiers, but undeniably, he is very capable.”

“I don’t care whether he’s Zhao Kuo or Li Kuo. I’ll kill everyone who tries to take our belongings,” Ji Hanwu said emotionlessly.

The rest of the people didn’t utter a word. They were all applauding their big brother in their mind.

Ji Hanwu patted Gao Peng’s head as he said gently, “You should return to the villa and take a good rest. I’ll be back soon.”

He then lifted his head where the gentleness on his face had disappeared. In exchange, his expression was cold and merciless.

“White Dragon!”

Roar.

A loud noise that resembled thunder came from the sky. Dense and thick clouds covered the sky. The white head of a dragon appeared among the dark clouds. The figure shot towards the ground from the sky and created a long white trail that linked the sky and the ground.

The trail spun a few times in front of Gao Peng, creating a fierce wind that messed up Gao Peng’s hair.

When he regained his composure, his grandfather had vanished. Only the white dragon in the distance was left in the clouds.

“Grandfather is still as hot-tempered as before. He leaves whenever he wants.” Gao Peng fixed his hair before he led the familiars home.

...

Since not long ago, monsters from the surrounding areas tended to attack the Highland base city frequently. Fortunately, none of them were monsters of the Commander tier. Hence, up to that point, the base city could still survive, although barely.

“What did the superiors say? Have you reported this to the superiors?”

“They told us to hold on as long as we could. The reconnaissance troops will arrive in a week,” said the assistant mayor of the Highland base city, who was covered in cold sweat. He was different from the mayor of the city because he had been appointed directly by the superiors, meaning his status was special. Most of the matters that required communication with the superiors were his responsibility.

He had relied on his relationship with his uncle to obtain his current position. However, his uncle had handed over his position six months ago. It could have been due to his uncle’s previous interference via political measure or some other means. All it meant was it was more troublesome.

“I have something to report, Mayor. There’s a batch of monsters who invaded the suburban area from the south. They’ve already caused five deaths and sixty-three injuries. Our supporting forces are heading over now” Yet another piece of bad news.

At the northern region of the suburbs, a group of monsters was running across the suburb and storming around heedlessly, as if there were something scary chasing after them.

It was a group of monsters that resembled rabbits. They were ten feet tall and each of their ears were pricked up like radars. Their red eyes were actively screening their surroundings while their mouths were opened, exposing their teeth that resembled knives. By looking at their appearances, they were fluffy and cute. However, they could jump at least 30 feet easily and tear up a car with just one bite.

Some of the monsters had fresh blood on their faces. It was extremely frightening.

“Shoot! Shoot!” someone shouted.

Bullets were hitting the bodies of the monsters, and blood splashed from the wounds. Unfortunately, it could only hurt their skin. The wounds appeared terrifying, but, in actuality, the bullets were only stuck in their muscles.

The city’s defense forces were covering their backs by sending in a troop of familiars.

The Blue Bats, with wings that were six feet wide, were flying around the sky. Their purple veins seemed tranquil, their wings thin. Some of the Blue Bats charged down and made a few tiny scratches on the rabbit monsters. The speed of the injured rabbit monsters was reduced as ice frosted over their wounds.

Nonetheless, there was also one big Blue Bat that failed to dodge and was attacked by the rabbit monsters, which hopped up and kicked right in the bat’s chest. Immediately, the bat was kicked and fell about 30 feet away with a sunken chest. The bat was expected to be dead.

The rabbit monsters were all over the hill, and there were approximately a thousand of them. The monsters ran across the suburbs, some hopping on the houses and destroying them on the spot, while others kicked in roofs and broke flower pots. In the meantime, their big red eyes were filled with horror.

“Requesting back-up! We’re requesting back-up!” The expression of the head guard, who was in charge of the front line, had changed. He could recognize these giant rabbits; they were monsters that used to live in a field in the northern region. They were called White Cloud Red-Eyed Rabbits. They were monsters of the Elite tier and omnivores that could eat grass and meat. All of the other monsters from that region were gone. Fortunately, the rabbits had been able to survive on rapid-growing plants in the grassland.

The White Cloud Red-Eyed Rabbits were gentle monsters and rarely attacked humans aggressively. None of them had any idea what had happened.

Recently, other than these White Cloud Red-Eyed Rabbits, other monsters from several regions in all directions had attacked the base cities aggressively. The Highland base city was only a small one. There wasn’t any trainer at the Commander rank in this city. There was only a Commander-tier Green Mountain White Ape 100 miles away that would only receive offerings from people on normal days. It was meant to protect the people of the base city during the invasion of monsters at the Commander tier.

Currently, the only monsters in the herd weren’t being led by any Commander-tier monster. The White Ape wouldn’t be willing to help even if the people requested it. That White Ape had always been cunning.

A low-rank police officer who was covered in sweat came running to report. “Captain, the back-up team will arrive in ten minutes—” His words halted abruptly. A white line stormed across the sky instantly and approached them, growing closer and closer each second.

All the clouds along the way were torn apart and left scattered.

“What... what is that?” The police officer could feel goosebumps all over his body. He could sense an enormous danger approaching.
