Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse

Chapter 45 - Forty-five: Fate

First, time in the Space moved much slower than outside, making training incredibly efficient, and second, their Special Abilities could only be fully utilized within the Space.

His Fire Element Ability was almost reaching the Level One Late Stage, and he was quite dissatisfied with this pace.

The problem was, he had nothing to burn; the Space was filled with useful supplies, crops, and livestock, so whenever he practiced, he had to go far away to burn vacant land just to use his Ability. Moreover, his Ability consumed energy at a slow rate, allowing him to reabsorb and reuse the expelled Special Ability Fire.

It seemed that only in the Apocalypse could he properly practice his Fire Element Ability.

But when it came to physical training, he hadn’t slacked off in the slightest. Now, Lu Hao appeared even more robust than before his vacation.

Dressed in his deep blue uniform, he looked tall and imposing. Under the brim of the matching hat was a face with distinct features, and a few strands of black hair fell at the edge, pressing down the ends of his slanting brows, his eyes and the corners of his mouth reflecting the resolve expected of a soldier.

Su Jin woke up in the morning to see Lu Hao neatly attired. He was currently in front of the mirror, adjusting the buttons at the top of his uniform, chin slightly raised, a gesture that made him appear full of restrained intensity.

Su Jin felt she was being silly again, gawking like a lovesick fool. He was exactly like the perfect men in the novels she used to read, but only she knew what kind of body lay beneath that starched uniform. At the thought, her cheeks reddened and she quickly picked up the water glass from her bedside to take a sip.

Suddenly, Lu Hao felt a soft embrace envelop him from behind and couldn’t help but curve his lips upward, saying, “You’re awake?”

“Mm-hmm, are you going to work soon?” she asked, knowing the answer but just wanting to talk more with the handsome man before her.

“What, you don’t want me to go to work?” Lu Hao affectionately pinched her cute, upturned nose. Hearing Su Jin’s soft voice, he too was reluctant to leave for work.

“Not at all, just come home early, and try not to work overtime. Wait for our good news,” Su Jin was also quite looking forward to today’s “mission.”

“If there’s no special assignment, I can finish work early and come to find you,” said Lu Hao.

Being a police officer was a demanding job. If tasks arose, it could mean several days and nights without rest, so when there were no assignments, the routine was comparatively more relaxed.

“No need, you just take care of yourself. We have plenty of people~” Su Jin playfully teased Lu Hao some more, feeling the previous tickling of her heart had been well relieved, and she urged Lu Hao to head to work.

Lu Hao smiled helplessly—It was not that Su Jin couldn’t bear him leaving, but rather that he couldn’t bear to leave her and their lively family. In fact, he was quite keen to join them in checking on the shop…

When Lu Hao arrived at his squad’s location, everyone else was already assembled, several team members watching him with bright eyes, waiting for the morning’s routine meeting. Aside from Yin Chengtian, Shi Jin, Xiang Sanjin, Tian Yongyi, Guan Shouzhong, Peng Dong, and Mai Wenyang, Lu Hao noticed that Liao Yifan from the neighboring squad was also there.

Liao Yifan was acknowledged as the police station’s belle, but she was quite the Tyrant Flower. Aside from Lu Hao, no other man could best her.

This was precisely why everyone was wary of the usually stoic Lu Hao, except for Liao Yifan, who, after being defeated by him, vowed in front of all the officers that she would one day beat Lu Hao.

In this police station, if Liao Yifan dared to claim she was third in terms of Combat Power, then no one would dare claim second. The first, of course, was Lu Hao, who had not only graduated from a military academy but also had two years of military experience and had participated in special missions.

In Hua Country, only special forces and selected soldiers got to take part in special missions. Although Lu Hao was not special forces by origin, he was still one-in-a-hundred in terms of staggeringly high Combat Power.

And today, Liao Yifan found that Lu Hao seemed even tougher to deal with. Although Lu Hao was dressed in his police uniform, every move he made exuded strength.

Liao Yifan frowned, wondering if this guy had taken advantage of his honeymoon to go on some special training?

After work, she shared her suspicions with Yin Chengtian, who looked at her with disbelief. He finally understood why everyone secretly called her Tyrant Flower.

A normal woman would be surprised and think how Captain Lu got even more handsome, yet Liao Yifan’s first reaction was that Lu Hao had become tougher to deal with?

That was scary.

“Why are you here, got something to do?” Lu Hao asked Liao Yifan, who had been standing by since the morning meeting ended. He hoped she hadn’t come to pick a fight with him again.

“Can’t I come to see you, Captain Lu, if there’s nothing to do?” Liao Yifan leaned in close and whispered a few words to Lu Hao.

“Where is he now?” Lu Hao immediately asked, his expression turning serious after listening.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk, you really care about this. But you have to tell me where you went for special training these past few days,” she persisted.

Ignoring Liao Yifan’s question, Lu Hao strode out of the door and headed directly to her team’s office.

What Liao Yifan was referring to was a strange person their team had taken in, transferred from the Y Autonomous Region. He wasn’t exactly a criminal but someone who had encountered trouble and had yet to clear the suspicion surrounding him. Since the person was from H City, he was sent directly there so they could continue the investigation based on the relatives and friends around him.

Indeed, the strange person Liao Yifan mentioned was the Big Beard who went to climb Mount M. His real name was Xue Wanyi, a true native of H City.

The case with the four mountaineers was still unresolved, with no evidence or the remaining two bodies found, so he hadn’t been cleared of suspicion. At his insistent request, the other police station had no choice but to agree to transfer him back.

After hearing Xue Wanyi’s story, Liao Yifan thought of the recent events in Lu Hao’s team and decided to reach out to him. She knew Lu Hao would definitely be interested in this case.

Of course, she also hoped that Lu Hao would appreciate her efforts in bringing him this news and would agree to spar with her again sometime, as their last match had only come about after she had badgered Captain Lu for two years. That, and because he was about to get married and was in a good mood, he agreed to her request.

Liao Yifan, accustomed to being ignored by Lu Hao, looked to the sky and sighed. When could she fight with Captain Lu again?

Lu Hao went to see Big Beard alone, with only the two of them in the interrogation room.

Big Beard felt that the police officer who came to listen to his story today looked somewhat familiar, but so many years had passed and he didn’t dare to claim acquaintance rashly. What if he was misunderstood by the people’s police? He was a man of integrity.

Lu Hao flipped through a file on the table, pertaining to the case of a few mountaineering enthusiasts on Mount M. Su Jin had sent it to him before; he hadn’t expected that one of the people involved would end up at their police station.

Opening the file, the first page listed Big Beard’s personal information. Lu Hao paused when he saw the name, then a genuine smile appeared on his face. Who would have thought it would be him?

Big Beard saw the stern police officer in front of him lift his eyelids and glance at himself. His thin lips parted, revealing a pleasant curvature, as he said, “Xue Wanyi, long time no see.”
