Inside The Black Mist

Chapter 51 - Miscalculation

Qu Gao\'s heart raced as he rose to his feet, all the while cursing Qin Jie in his mind.

"Damn it, this is no War God-Level! Qin Jie, that bastard, had inaccurate intelligence!"

In the corner of his eye, a flash of light descended, and the fine hairs on Qu Gao\'s neck bristled. He rolled, feeling a sudden chill graze his scalp.

He hadn\'t even had time to see what the opponent looked like before he was able to pull the trigger, but then he found himself in a predicament. The barrel of his sniper rifle had been sliced off, rendering his handcrafted sniper rifle into nothing more than scrap metal.

Amid the glimmers of silver, Qu Gao finally saw a silver-haired youth holding an oddly shaped sword. The youth emitted a silvery glow from the visible outer layer of Star Substance, and as he stood on the ground, his figure blurred.

Reaching behind him, Qu Gao retrieved a tactical knife from his belt, and with a sense of touch, he thrust it forward.

Did it hit?

Qu Gao felt a hint of surprise, but then he felt a sudden coldness around his neck, and his eyes widened.

The blurry figure of the youth became clear, and that was when Qu Gao realized that the headless body he saw was his own. It was his last moment of consciousness...

It was only then that Tianyang exhaled, taking a step back and covering the area where Qu Gao\'s blade had struck him.

Fortunately, the knife didn\'t seem to be poisoned; otherwise, he would have been in trouble.

Qu Gao wouldn\'t know that the assault rifle behind the lamppost was firing without anyone controlling it. Tianyang had merely fixed the trigger to keep it firing in full-auto mode.

For the sake of making Qu Gao believe he was hiding behind the lamppost, Tianyang even took off his clothes and let a piece of fabric peek out from behind the lamppost to create the illusion.

The purpose of this act was to pinpoint Qu Gao\'s location. When the assault rifle continued its relentless attack on the main building and, presumably, Qin Jie\'s potential location, Qu Gao would definitely shoot to protect his employer. However, in doing so, he would expose his sniper position.

At that moment, Tianyang, who had already moved to a different location after setting up the rifle, would have the opportunity to strike Qu Gao while he was in the open.

As expected, Qu Gao, the master sniper, was also skilled in close combat. To avoid any future surprises, Tianyang opted to trade a wound for Qu Gao\'s life. He lunged at Qu Gao, who barely had time to raise his gun, and their blades clashed.

Qu Gao made a miscalculation here. His location limited his mobility. He underestimated Tianyang\'s speed, allowing the youth to get dangerously close. Furthermore, he underestimated Tianyang\'s determination, leading to Tianyang having a chance to strike him down.

If the location and timing were different, it might have been Tianyang lying lifeless at this moment. Unfortunately, in this world, there was no room for "what ifs."

Tianyang briefly tended to his wound and then picked up his sword, named "Springwater," and headed for the entrance to the terrace.

Through his tactical eyes, he spotted a shadow lurking behind the door.

Tianyang raised Springwater, using it as a makeshift javelin, and hurled it with all his might.

The sword, with its astonishing length, tore through the air and easily pierced the door, impaling the ambushers on the other side, who were employees of Qin Jie.

At this moment, Qin Jie was in his study. The long table in front of him was covered in dust from the recent barrage of gunfire that had shaken the mansion.

Hasty footsteps could be heard, and the butler pushed open the door, breathless, and said, "Sir, it\'s bad news. Qu Gao... Qu Gao is dead. His head was severed!"

"You useless fool!" Qin Jie shouted. "That guy promised me that nothing would go wrong, and he was the first to die!"

He opened a drawer and took out a communicator, sending a message to his deputy in charge of security, [Act immediately!]

At that moment, gunshots could be heard continuously outside. It sounded like the shots were getting closer to his study.

Panicked, Qin Jie couldn\'t wait for the deputy\'s response. He grabbed the communicator and directly contacted his deputy.

This time, the deputy answered quickly.

Qin Jie practically yelled, "Bai Fei, hurry with your team! Do you hear me?"

However, on the communicator, a stranger with a calm tone responded, "He heard you, but I\'m afraid it\'s too late. The security team won\'t be deployed."

Qin Jie was taken aback and shouted, "Who are you? How dare you use a fortress officer\'s communicator?!"

The person chuckled softly. "I am Ling Feng, and if Sir Qin can\'t remember for a moment, I can remind you—I am the Chief of Staff of the Night Walkers. Unfortunately, because you abused power, which falsely incriminated a relative of an Ascender individual, leading to her death in the Black Mine, the higher-ups in the fortress have decided to dismiss you from your position as the director of the Third Security Department."

Qin Jie couldn\'t help but shudder; he knew that Ling Feng was right in his assertion. The Night Walkers had no jurisdiction over the City Garrison Legion, but Ling Feng had made the decision to take effect immediately.

"Furthermore," Ling Feng continued, "you do have the right to receive protection. So, I have already ordered the security team to set out. Please, Mr. Qin, hold on until the moment they arrive."

With that, the communication was cut off.

Qin Jie, like a man who had lost his soul, slumped into his chair. He knew that while the security team might have already been dispatched, by the time they arrived, his mansion would likely have already fallen.

Qin Jie slammed his fist on the table, crying out, "Why? Why? Who is that kid, and how could he make the Night Walkers act like this? It doesn\'t make sense; it doesn\'t make sense at all!"
