Beast Tamer: Awakening a Mythical Talent at the Beginning

Chapter 39 - The Little Dandy Meets the Big Dandy, the King-Level Crystal Core Is Obtained!

An old man hurried toward the mayor’s mansion, accompanied by a skinny Black Iron Beast Tamer. The skinny, unsteady figure was none other than the young Beast Tamer who had intercepted Bai Zian moments ago.

“Steward Li, why did my uncle summon me?” the skinny beast tamer asked, perplexed.

Moments earlier, the steward had demanded he rush to the mayor’s mansion without delay, leaving him both confused and displeased. After all, he had intended to pursue the beautiful woman he’d just encountered, and now he was being called away.

“I’ll explain when you arrive.” the steward replied quickly, knowing little himself.

The mayor’s grim expression when issuing the order had told him enough: trouble awaited the young man.

When the skinny Beast Tamer arrived at the mansion’s hall, his eyes lit up.

The young man who had just competed with him was there.

What luck. No effort needed, and here he is, delivered to me.

This meant another chance to see that beauty again. But soon his joy turned to dread.

The young man sat in the primary seat, while his uncle, the mayor, stood beside him, not daring to sit.

“I’ve messed up big time!” The skinny Beast Tamer’s face turned pale.

His mind raced—who was this man with such terrifying background that even his powerful uncle wouldn’t dare act? Worse, he’d just offended him.

“Get over here!” the mayor bellowed, glaring at his nephew.

The skinny Beast Tamer, face now crestfallen, slunk toward the mayor.

“You wretched brat! How dare you use my name to cause trouble outside! Today, I’ll teach you a lesson on behalf of your mother!” the mayor roared, directly pulling out a vine rod from somewhere and whipping it hard across the skinny Beast Tamer’s back.

This wasn’t Bai Zian’s demand. It was the mayor’s initiative to discipline his nephew for leveraging his influence.

Normally, he could shield his nephew from minor issues, but this time the brat had gone too far, targeting Bai Zian of all people.

Is he allowed to bully him?

Bai Zian wasn’t just anyone; he was the grandson of Bai Jingchong, the Diamond-ranked Beast Tamer and lord of Bai Lin City, to which Candlefire City was a mere subordinate.

Offending Bai Jingchong could spell disaster for Candlefire City. Worse, Bai Zian hadn’t even sought trouble—his nephew had.

Isn’t this directly causing trouble for himself?

So, the mayor’s fury grew with every lash.

Cries of agony filled the room, but Bai Zian remained impassive, showing no sign of intervention.

After some time, the mayor stopped, pulling a gilded, incomplete energy core from his nephew’s belongings.

“Young Master Bai, is this the one you were after?” the mayor asked, holding out the core with great reverence.

Bai Zian gave a small nod, then glanced at the groaning Beast Tamer on the floor. “I told you, you would deliver it to me.”

With that, Bai Zian calmly pocketed the core. He’d initially intended to buy it, but now it seemed unnecessary.

“Take care of yourself,” Bai Zian said as he stood to leave. His business was done.

“Allow me to see you off.” the mayor hurried to say, grabbing a backpack stuffed with energy cores and beast materials.

The compensation, a peace offering, showed through the seams. He hoped Bai Zian wouldn’t hold a grudge against him or Candlefire City.

Bai Zian accepted the offering without hesitation.

After all, he’d come to flex his power—accepting a gift was hardly inappropriate. With the mayor escorting him, Bai Zian slowly departed.

Once Bai Zian was out of sight, the mayor returned to the hall, where his nephew still lay groaning in pain.

The mayor muttered angrily. “I’ve spoiled you too much, and now look where it’s gotten you.”

“This time you should learn your lesson.”

“Uncle, who was that man?” the skinny Beast Tamer moaned, barely able to speak through his pain.

“Forget any thoughts of revenge. He’s someone you can’t afford to offend. If you dare think about getting even, I’ll cripple you myself.”

The mayor’s face darkened as he thought his nephew might still hold a grudge. That could spell disaster.

“No, you’re going to the military barracks for training. You won’t leave until I say so.”

The skinny Beast Tamer’s face turned white in horror.

Military training?

He was far too weak to endure such hardship. All because of one careless question, he’d brought this fate upon himself. Now, there was no escape.

Thus, the military barracks of Candlefire City gained one very miserable new recruit.
