Chapter 494: Ambush

Chapter 494: Ambush

As he spoke, Brawly released a Medicham. After emerging, Medicham struck a handsome pose and prepared to engage the menacing Krabby and Kingler.

On Yuga\'s side, he released a Roserade.

After Roserade appeared, Yuga nodded at it gently, and Roserade immediately understood.

Roserade swiftly ran ahead, spreading toxic spikes on the path that the Krabby and Kingler would inevitably cross. As these toxic spikes landed on the ground, they quickly seeped into the top layer of the soil.

After scattering the toxic spikes, Roserade returned to Yuga\'s side. Brawly, who recognized the toxic spikes, applauded Yuga in admiration.

Soon, Yuga and Brawly heard a chorus of screams up ahead. When the Krabby and Kingler, in their frenzied state, crossed the area with the toxic spikes, the spikes emerged from the ground, causing the Krabby and Kingler to foam at the mouth.

By the time Yuga and Brawly rushed over, the Krabby and Kingler were already lying motionless on the ground. Taking advantage of their incapacitated state due to poisoning, Roserade shot energy balls one after another to deal with the remaining Krabby and Kingler.

Brawly\'s Medicham, on the other hand, used Shadow Ball to assist Roserade in the cleanup, but it kept its distance from the Krabby and Kingler, fearing that it might accidentally get poisoned by Roserade\'s toxic spikes.

With all the Krabby and Kingler taken care of, Yuga and Brawly hadn\'t even had a chance to catch their breath when a colossal dragon-like creature emerged from the water. It opened its mouth and unleashed a powerful Hydro Pump, upheaving the soil in the process. The toxic spike field set up by Roserade was instantly scattered by the Hydro Pump.

Note: Originally, Hydro Pump couldn\'t clear Toxic Spikes (only Rapid Spin and Defog could remove Toxic Spikes), but this adaptation is based on the current situation.

In an instant, as the Hydro Pump approached, Yuga and Brawly, along with Roserade and Medicham, hurriedly fled the scene. Otherwise, they would have been swiftly dealt with by the imposing creature before them.

The gigantic creature let out a deafening roar as it confronted Yuga and Brawly. This was a Gyarados, much larger than others of its kind.

"Roserade, Energy Ball!"

"Medicham, Thunder Punch!"

Yuga and Brawly simultaneously gave commands to Roserade and Medicham to counterattack the Gyarados.

Roserade launched energy balls one after another, successfully hitting the Gyarados, but when Medicham charged in with Thunder Punch, it was knocked away by a powerful Aqua Tail from the Gyarados.

Struck by the energy balls, the Gyarados writhed in pain, violently thrashing its thick tail on the surface of the stream, churning the water into a muddy mess. Even some small Pokémon resembling tadpoles were scared out of the water.

Medicham, after being knocked away, landed on a large tree, then leaped off it, approaching the Gyarados once more. It landed on the Gyarados\'s head and delivered a punch.

Gyarados, vulnerable to Electric-type moves due to its fourfold weakness, felt the surge of electricity from Medicham\'s Thunder Punch coursing through its head. Its massive body collapsed with a resounding splash, creating a huge water fountain in the stream.

However, Gyarados\'s immense size provided it with substantial defense, so the Energy Balls from Roserade and Medicham\'s Thunder Punch didn\'t incapacitate it immediately.

Struggling to stand, Gyarados let out a menacing roar and activated its Intimidate ability.

In that moment, not only Medicham and Roserade, but even Yuga and Brawly, who faced the Gyarados head-on, felt a wave of panic.

Brawly, a Fighting-type Trainer, relied heavily on physical attacks. His Medicham didn\'t possess strong Special Attack capabilities, and being intimidated by Gyarados\'s ability severely reduced its offensive power.

However, Roserade quickly shook off the intimidation\'s effects and launched several energy balls directly at the Gyarados.

Confronting Roserade\'s attacks, the Gyarados showed no signs of backing down. It raised its thick tail high and swiped it forward, sending all the energy balls flying away.

While Roserade was keeping the Gyarados busy, Medicham used a strengthening move called Power-Up Punch. After several rounds of boosting its strength, it managed to compensate for the attack it had lost due to Gyarados\'s intimidation.

During this time, under Roserade\'s control, countless Magical Leaf shot towards the Gyarados. Taking advantage of the cover provided by the multitude of Leaf, Medicham successfully closed the gap and delivered a Thunder Punch to Gyarados\'s abdomen, eliciting a sharp cry of pain from the giant creature.

Both the Thunder Punch from Medicham and the Magical Leaf from Roserade struck the Gyarados successfully. Gyarados collapsed onto the water\'s surface, creating a massive splash in the stream.

Seeing the Gyarados finally fall, Yuga and Brawly breathed a sigh of relief. At this point, the entire stream was devoid of any creatures, with nothing but the muddy aftermath of the encounter.

Just as they had settled the Gyarados and returned to the flag, Yuga and Brawly noticed a Staraptor attempting to pluck the flag from the stone pillar with its talon, ready to fly away.

Without hesitation, Yuga released his Vivillon and instructed it, "Vivillon, use Electroweb to block Staraptor\'s escape route."

Upon Yuga\'s command, Vivillon immediately released electrified spider webs. Although they didn\'t directly hit Staraptor, they blocked all of Staraptor\'s potential escape routes.

In a panic, Staraptor attempted to flee, but it kept colliding with the electric webs clinging to branches. Before long, its entire body was entangled in the electric webs and crashed to the ground.

Watching the scene unfold, Brawly, who had been observing, commanded his Medicham to deliver a Thunder Punch to Staraptor.

This particular Staraptor was significantly weaker than the Gyarados, but its advantage lay in its ability to fly. Without Yuga\'s intervention, it would have been challenging for Brawly, who primarily specialized in Fighting-type Pokémon, to stop Staraptor on his own. Fighting-type Pokémon were generally ill-suited to dealing with Flying-types due to type disadvantages.

After removing the flag from Staraptor\'s talon and reinserting it onto the stone pillar, Brawly smiled at Yuga and said, "Thanks to you just now. If it were only me, I\'d have had to watch Staraptor fly away."

Yuga shook his head and replied, "We\'re teammates; this is what we should do. Let\'s continue working together."

Brawly nodded, but shortly after, both of them heard a buzzing sound in the distance.
