Chapter 268: Howling Moon

Chapter 268: Howling Moon

Seeing this, Aru quickly waved his hand and said, "This is the Pokémon you caught; you should be the one to tame it." He looked at Meowth with a hint of disdain.

"Meowth! Meowth, Meowth!"

Observing Aru\'s disdainful attitude, Meowth was quite displeased. It bared its sharp teeth at Aru, as if it wanted to scratch him right away.

Hearing Aru\'s words, Yuga asked curiously, "Isn\'t this a Pokémon from the research institute?"

Aru shook his head and said, "No, it\'s a wild Pokémon that somehow found its way here to the institute, where it\'s been freeloading."

Yuga learned from Aru\'s description that this Meowth indeed had a mischievous nature.

Meowth\'s origin remained a mystery; it suddenly appeared in the institute\'s backyard one day. Initially, it behaved quite decently, only stealing food from other Pokémon.

Aru had reported Meowth\'s actions to Professor Birch, but the Professor considered it harmless and allowed it to continue. However, this leniency only emboldened Meowth. Its behavior escalated from stealing food to tormenting other Pokémon.

Eventually, Aru could no longer tolerate Meowth\'s actions and attempted to discipline it. To his surprise, he was no match for Meowth, and it ended up teaching him a lesson instead.

Meowth became increasingly audacious, visiting the institute more frequently, causing chaos among the Pokémon. It was particularly cunning, targeting weaker Pokémon for its antics.

After hearing Aru\'s account, Yuga wondered if this Meowth was simply seeking attention from him, as its actions suggested.

Yuga suggested, "Why don\'t you try capturing it?"

Aru quickly shook his head and said, "You should do it. I can\'t handle it."

It was evident that Aru had been thoroughly worn out by Meowth.

Seeing Aru\'s evident disdain for Meowth, the mischievous Pokémon once again showed its sharp teeth, trying to intimidate Aru. In response, Aru quickly moved away, fearing that Meowth might pull another prank.

Yuga gently patted Meowth\'s head and commented, "You\'re quite a little troublemaker."

Meowth, feeling Yuga\'s hand on its head, immediately raised its paw, as if it wanted to scratch Yuga. However, a stern look from Florges made it retract its paw.

Yuga took out a Poké Ball and placed it in front of Meowth, saying, "Come on in!"

Meowth, realizing it couldn\'t resist, gave Aru one last glare, then lifted its right paw and tapped the switch button on the Poké Ball, allowing itself to be captured.

Yuga looked at the motionless Poké Ball and asked Aru, "Are you sure you don\'t want to capture it? It seems to like you."

Aru chuckled and replied, "You must be joking."

Seeing that Aru wasn\'t interested, Yuga didn\'t insist and put Meowth\'s Poké Ball away.

Since Professor Birch hadn\'t yet found a solution to the Pokémon Virus on Magikarp, and he didn\'t want to leave Yuga alone, Yuga decided to stay at the research institute for the day.

That night, when it was time for bed, Yuga released his Pokémon into the room, allowing them to sleep with him. This included the recently captured Meowth.

Despite its mischievous nature, Meowth seemed to understand the situation. Upon seeing Yuga\'s Pokémon, it abandoned any thoughts of escape.

Absol lay down on a blanket by Yuga\'s bed, Florges covered herself with a blanket and rested at the bed\'s edge, Vivillon perched on the window sill, while Eevee, Chimecho, and Dratini snuggled directly under the covers with Yuga.

Meowth observed this, then that, and eventually nestled comfortably under Absol\'s belly, closing its eyes in a relaxed position.

Absol opened its eyes briefly, casting a faint glance at Meowth, then closed them again, paying no attention to Meowth\'s actions.

In the middle of the night, Yuga, still half-asleep, felt something crawling out from under his blanket.

He rubbed his eyes and, illuminated by the moonlight streaming in from the window, saw that Eevee was now standing on his belly, gazing out of the window.

Yuga softly asked, "What\'s wrong, Eevee? Can\'t sleep?"

"Eevee."

Eevee, upon hearing Yuga\'s voice, turned its head towards him and let out a gentle sound. Then, it hopped off the bed and ran toward the bedroom door.

"Eevee, where are you going?"

Yuga, fearing to wake the other Pokémon, tried to speak as quietly as possible. However, Eevee continued running without turning back.

Seeing this, Yuga quickly put on his coat, got out of bed cautiously, and then followed Eevee outside.

Eevee wasn\'t running fast, occasionally looking back at Yuga, almost as if it were waiting for him.

And so, Yuga followed Eevee to the research institute\'s backyard.

The autumn night sky was clear, with a few stars scattered, and the cool moonlight illuminated the backyard\'s grass, making it unusually bright.

Eevee trotted to the center of the backyard and looked up at the bright moon in the sky. Moonlight bathed it, creating a hazy and unique beauty.

Yuga reached Eevee\'s side, crouched down, and gently stroked its back. He asked, "What\'s wrong? Why did you come outside in the middle of the night?"

Autumn nights could be quite chilly, and as Yuga touched Eevee\'s fur, he felt a coldness.

Eevee shifted its gaze from the moon to Yuga\'s face. Its pitch-black eyes seemed to shine in the moonlight. It stared at Yuga for a moment, then extended its tongue and licked Yuga\'s cheek.

Yuga felt a tickling sensation and was about to say something to Eevee when he noticed a brilliant evolution light radiating from Eevee\'s body, harmonizing with the moon\'s glow. It was stunningly beautiful.

Evolution? Yuga was genuinely surprised.

Eevee\'s evolution process didn\'t last long. When the white evolution light dissipated, a new Pokémon appeared under the moonlight.

This Pokémon had inconspicuous black fur in the night, but it had golden, ring-shaped patterns on its body that interacted with the moonlight, emitting a peculiar glow.

Umbreon! Yuga softly exclaimed.

"Umbreon!"

Umbreon glanced at Yuga, then turned away, emitting a melodious cry toward the moon hanging in the sky.
