American Tax Officer

Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Chief Smith

By this time, David had snapped back to his senses, but when he focused on the man standing in front of the car, he was instantly enraged.

[Name: Ono Yutaro.]

[Occupation: Car thief.]

[More Details: …]

[Tax Due: 26,000 US Dollars!]

"Fuck…"

David thought to himself, why on earth did they get hit out of the blue.

Turns out, this guy was the accomplice who had been in a car with Nakamura Ota just before.

It seemed that Nakamura Ota had realized he was being followed and called this accomplice to create an opportunity for his escape.

But this was just what David needed.

He had thought that letting Nakamura Ota get away would require some extra legwork, but now that this guy had willingly delivered himself into their hands, it was just as well!

"Fake Yau, how the hell do you drive!"

Nisen hadn\'t realized yet that the man before him was an accomplice of the other side and had already stepped out of the car to scold him furiously, while the other party didn\'t dare to retort and could only keep apologizing and showing weakness.

Meanwhile, David had pushed open the car door and stepped out, walking up to the man named Ono Yutaro and grabbing his head to smash it against the car hood.

"Bang!!!"

"Ah!!!"

A loud noise followed by a scream had completely bewildered Nisen, but he quickly came to his senses.

He thought David was venting his anger at letting the car thief escape, so he immediately looked around to see if anyone was taking pictures.

After all, they were tax inspectors for the IRS. Being caught on camera assaulting someone in public would certainly bring big trouble.

Fortunately, the area was a back alley with no people around, which allowed Nisen to breathe a sigh of relief.

"How does it feel to be hit, not very pleasant, right!"

David picked up Ono Yutaro, staring straight at his contorted face.

At first, Ono Yutaro was thoroughly dazed by the smack, but upon hearing David\'s words, he regained his senses and angrily retorted, "Damn, what do you mean by that, I\'m going to sue you for intentional injury!"

"Really?"

David was amused and replied sarcastically, "Then how do you explain obstructing public duty, hit-and-run, stealing cars—how do you account for those!?"

Nisen, who had been looking around, whirled his head back upon hearing this, first glancing at David, then studying Ono Yutaro intently.

Ono Yutaro was taken aback at first, then his eyes began to show panic, before he forced himself to respond calmly, "What hit-and-run, what stealing cars, I don\'t know what you\'re talking about!"

"You don\'t know?"

David continued with mocking humor, "You and your accomplice just stole a Bentley at the entrance of the casino, have you forgotten that already?"

"Fine, if you\'ve forgotten that, then surely you haven\'t forgotten the Porsche 911 you stole on December 11 at Crystal Shopping Street, right?"

"And do you also forget about the Rolls-Royce Phantom at the Horseshoe Bay Hotel on December 21st?"

Upon hearing about the Bentley earlier, Ono Yutaro realized that he might have been caught in a trap, but the fear in his heart became insurmountable upon hearing about the Porsche and the Rolls-Royce.

His background had been investigated so thoroughly, it seemed, this was no coincidence—he had been targeted by law enforcement for a long time!

At this moment, he regretted his rash decision to come here and cover for Nakamura Ota.

This was like a lamb walking into a tiger\'s den!

"Damn you..."

As the conversation reached this point, and judging by Ono Yutaro\'s expression, Nisen was completely convinced by David\'s words. He too walked over and furiously landed a punch on the other man.

It had always been them, the tax bureau, bullying others; when had anyone dared to bully the tax bureau, not to mention deliberately ramming their car!

Even though there was no serious harm done, such provocations definitely could not be tolerated!

"Stop hitting, officer, stop, we\'re friends with Chief Smith. Please spare us this once..."

After being repeatedly beaten, Ono Yutaro could not take it anymore, and while begging for mercy, he invoked the name of a chief of police.

Hearing the name Chief Smith, Nisen and David exchanged looks.

The chief of police was no small player; by administrative level, he was on par with Chief Tax Officer Liu Yi.

They had not expected to uncover a police chief while investigating a gang of car thieves.

Nisen pulled David aside and whispered, "Do you think what this guy\'s saying is true?"

David pondered for a moment and replied, "Since he dares to say this, there must be some connection. And considering this gang has stood in Las Vegas for so many years, if they didn\'t have some backing, they probably would have been wiped out long ago!"

Nisen nodded in agreement, then said, "So, what do you want to do?"

A slight curve appeared on David\'s lips, "My thought is, if we can implicate this police chief, that would be perfect!"

"That\'s exactly what I was thinking!"

Nisen also revealed a lecherous smile, corruption and bribery involving a police chief was big news, indeed!

And if they could secure this chief\'s dirty money, it would certainly make waves throughout the entire bureau!

After discussing, both men returned to Ono Yutaro\'s side, with David being the first to speak, "You say you\'re friends with Chief Smith, is that true?"

"That\'s absolutely true; he and our boss are tight!"

Ono Yutaro, thinking that the name Chief Smith had intimidated his opponents, immediately and emphatically assured them.

"If that\'s the case, then first take us to see your boss!"

"Ah…"

Ono Yutaro\'s face fell, and he was very reluctant.

"Without seeing your boss, how can I confirm this is true? You could be tricking me, after all, I could also claim I am sworn brothers with Worship Lamp!"

Leaving aside the matter with Chief Smith, David was determined to collect the gang\'s dirty money.

And to \'catch them all in one net\', the simplest and most effective method was to have a face-to-face conversation with their boss.

"This... all right then..."

With no alternative, Ono Yutaro had to capitulate, but just as he was about to get into his own car, he was stopped by David, "Don\'t bother with your car, get in ours!"

Nakamura Ota had already fled, and in order to avoid repeating the mistake and causing unnecessary trouble, they needed to proceed with more caution this time.
