Chapter 257 - 257: 163: Five Continents and Four Oceans_3

Just ritual incantations alone, even if you set up the rituals correctly and recite them, are basically useless.

Not to mention the fire control spell before.

Previously, Lu Yuan had seen in the Taoist Classics various spells claiming to summon ghosts and gods, ward off water and fire, control flying swords, and so on. However, when he tried to replicate them, none of them were effective.

It’s the special rituals that, when set up, can help calm the mind and better comprehend Dao Law, improving one’s state of mind, which can be considered somewhat useful.

However, even though these spells, instrument tracks, and the like in the Taoist Classics aren’t of much use, it doesn’t mean these are false or deceptive. Lu Yuan feels that the Taoist Classics may indeed be real, and the spells and rituals mentioned within are also genuine.

The reason why outsiders like them can’t replicate the same effects may be due to a lack of magical power.

After all, every mythology and Taoist Classic, when recording these stories and scriptures, states a prerequisite – the need for magical power.

Just like a car needs electricity or oil to move, without power, you can’t drive even the best car.

And magical power is equivalent to energy.

‘Perhaps it’s even more than just magical power.’

Lu Yuan has practiced martial arts for a long time, and although he has not cultivated immortality, both martial arts and immortality are extraordinary and should have some common ground.

Therefore, he had once speculated that perhaps magical power, along with spells and rituals, aren’t the whole picture.

Just like martial artists, technique is one aspect, inner strength is another, and the integration of inner strength and technique is yet another aspect.

Magical power is equivalent to a martial artist’s inner strength, while techniques are equivalent to spells, and the integration of inner strength and technique is the key to performing a particular magic.

And such key techniques belong to the real hidden inheritances of various major Dao Veins, which are never mentioned in the scriptures.

This is also one of the reasons why Lu Yuan lost interest in various spells and rituals after reading more of the Taoist Classics.

It’s simple.

People show empty frameworks and facades, and no matter how much you look at them without the core technology, what use could there be?

And once you have the core technology, there will naturally be corresponding spells. Learning other spells that aren’t compatible is also useless.

Lu Yuan isn’t an impostor, and he isn’t relying on these superficial skills to make money, so he wouldn’t waste his time learning these irrelevant things.

Skipping past the content of the spells, what follows are the anecdotes and travelogues.

This Daoist Master Yunxiaozi seems to be someone who enjoys traveling the world.

According to his accounts, there are four seas, eight wildlands, five continents, and ten realms in the world. The region where Yue Country is located is just one part of the five continents: the East Sea in the East Continent. Aside from the East Continent, there are South Continent, West Continent, North Xuan Continent, and South Xuan Continent.

Amongst the five continents, the East Continent is the largest, with an area almost equal to that of the other four continents combined.

The population of the East Continent is also the largest, with the most abundant resources and the most prosperous culture. There are hundreds of large and small countries within it. The largest ones are comparable to Liang, Yue, and Zhou countries, while the smallest ones are only equivalent to a single prefecture or county of the Yue Country, forming and dissipating like duckweed.

To the west of the East Continent is the West Continent. This continent is connected to the East Continent, but the connection is very narrow and short, only several dozen miles. The passages leading south and north are oceans.

The West Continent is located near the West Sea, where the land is mostly desert and forest. The culture is sparse, the population is scarce, and there are very few founding nations, with most being wilderness tribes. The people here are ignorant, barbaric, and lazy, and they are extremely ugly, resembling evil spirits. Thus, it is also known as the Rakshasa Land.

The South Continent is across the sea from the East Continent, located in the Southsea area. Its area is only equivalent to two or three Great Yues, and it is surrounded by islands. The population here is even scarcer than in the West Continent, and they haven’t even established nations; they are just wild tribes and incomparably ignorant.

North Xuan Continent and South Xuan Continent are located in the Lonely Abyss Sea. The culture and population here are flourishing, and there are quite a few countries. However, the people here are barbaric, believe in blood sacrifice, and witchcraft and bug magic are prevalent. The people are mostly ignorant and not worth mentioning.

These are the experiences that Daoist Master Yunxiaozi accumulated after a hundred years of traveling through the five continents and four seas.

The Travelogue Chapter has more than twenty thousand words, which has greatly broadened Lu Yuan’s horizons and made him realize for the first time that there are five continents and four seas in the world.

Before this, when reading many scriptures and writings, most of them talked about the vastness of the world referring to the Nine Provinces and ten domains divided by the ancient Three Emperors.

But according to Yun Xiao Zi’s Taoist Classics, the Nine Provinces and Ten Realms of the ancient Three Emperors only cover parts of the East Continent and the East Sea, and only a part of those two continents.

Compared to the five continents and four seas, it’s just a corner of the world. “According to Yun Xiao Zi’s travelogue, there are cultivators in other continents and seas too. However, the cultivation system is very different from that of the East Continent, or specifically, from that of Great Yue.”

There are witchcraft, blood magic, ghost arts, bug magic, divine methods, etc… Even the most basic martial arts techniques are very different and not entirely the same.

How vast is this world?”

After finishing reading the book, Lu Yuan couldn’t help but sigh.

Though Yun Xiao Zi only used a little over twenty thousand words to describe his travels, it already took him from one perspective to another, no longer limited to the Great Yue region.

“Even according to the scriptures, the most prosperous and powerful areas in the entire five continents and four seas are still the regions where the countries of Yue, Liang, and Zhou are located.”

“As for the other parts of the East Continent or other continents, they lag far behind this place.”

“In this way, when the ancient Three Emperors divided the Nine Provinces and Ten Realms, perhaps it was not because they did not know about the vastness of the world, but they completely ignored the other barren lands and did not bother to include them.”

Lu Yuan thought of such a possibility, feeling that this might be the truth.

After all, in ancient times, in theory, immortal aura should have been much stronger than it is now.

At that time, the ancient Three Emperors in myths and legends were truly divine beings.

If Yun Xiao Zi could travel through the five continents and four seas, then such figures were certainly capable of doing the same.

And if they knew about it but didn’t say anything, there seemed to be no other reason except that they looked down on it..
