Dead Man Walking: Living By Day, Dead By Night

Chapter 153: The Defense of Gravestone Part I

"That naughty girl… She has finally made her move…."

Madison stirred by Zane\'s side, apparently in worse shape than he was, rubbing her eyes as she struggled to come to an understanding about what was happening, a sentiment she voiced aloud in with a slur.

"Wha? Wha ha ha happen?"

It was clear she was took intoxicated to properly get up, let alone fight. But right now Zane needed the girl more than anything. After all with her new armor set, and her skills, she was the best chance of defending the town from being over run by walkers.

Because of this Zane instantly entered the store section of his system and bought a potion for 120 gold that would cure any effects which a living being was suffering from, this of course included intoxication.

Zane thrust the bottle into Madison\'s hand while telling her what was happening.

"Drink this! Quickly! We are under attack, I think the local Horde King has finally made her move!"

Madison immediately opened the potion and stuffed it in her mouth, drinking its contents in a matter of seconds. The moment the liquid touched her tongue she sobered up instantly, and truly understood the danger they were in.

Now was not the time to be embarrassed by her skimpy armor, instead she equipped her new gear at the same time Zane did, rushing out of her room with Zane behind her and towards the entrance of the bunker where thy found the other girls ready for combat as well.

Angelica seemed panicked as she approached Zane and the others, asking them all what was happening, and how she could help.

"Zane what\'s going on? Is there some way I can help?"

Zane however shook his head before alerting the other girls to the situation, it did not take him long to explain, but in the end he told Angelica to stay put and to remain on standbye in case somebody got seriously injured.

After saying this Zane, Olivia, Elena, and Madison rushed out of the bunker and towards the settlement\'s defenses where they were horrified to see 20,000 or so undead surrounding them. The survivors of gravestone were already on the walls, firing all of their munitions at the walkers which climbed over the corpses of their comrades in an attempt to get over the barrier and into the town.

In total roughly fifty people lived in Gravestone, but less than half of that number was actually combat capable. There was another strike team of awakened who lived in the town, and they themselves were already fighting on the frontlines when Zane and his girls appeared.

The overall area of Gravestone was rather small, because of that the fifteen or so defenders could rapidly cover all areas, as they fought against the undead with all their means available.

Zane quickly noticed that the front gate was a weak point, as it was not a solid line of defense unlike the other areas and because of that he gave the orders to Madison and the others that he felt were necessary to secure the settlement.

"Madison you\'re with me! We\'re going to hold the line at the front gate! As for you Olivia and Elena, work together with the sentries and the other strike team! Go where you are needed most and help them protect the walls!"

Olivia and Elena nodded their heads silently, under such an intense crisis there was no time to be jealous towards Madison who Zane had taken to bed earlier in the night, and who now clung to the man as was incredibly common for a woman who just recently lost her V card.

Madison herself was in an unusually focused state as she leaped over the stone walls, and into the fray, using bother her shield, and her skill to keep the largest number of undead at bay. All the while Zane zipped around and claimed their lives with his twin shortswords.

The young pink haired woman who was usually a brainless airhead displayed a masterful skill of defense, acting as the bulwark as she laid down her shield, and forcefields, taunting the thousands of walkers to charge towards the slim gap within the gate that she stood behind.

The undead were funneled one at a time into her fiery sword, which not only was capable of dealing enough damage to kill a Walker in one shot, but lit the undead aflame in the process, spreading the fire among the stacked corpses, and burning their remains to ash.

Meanwhile Zane moved through the crowd of walkers at breakneck speeds. Slicing their heads of with his two short swords, like a sickle to the scythe for every second that passed numerous decapitated and rotting heads flew through the air, the coagulated blood spilling across the killing field which Zane had made.

In fact Zane was killing so many of the Walkers that he had cleared out a whole five square meters around Madison, allowing her to stand by and protect the gate, while Zane cut off heads and limbs left and right.

Zane was so fast that the blood of his victims left no print upon him nor his armor, instead Madison gazed in astonishment at her new lover\'s accomplishments on the battlefield. He was moving so fast that she could only track a shadow image left behind, but wherever this shadow image appeared, a Walker\'s corpse fell by its side.

---

Olivia and Elean were doing well on their own. While they were not as high level as Zane, nor did they have anywhere near the same level of equipment. Elena was a competent swordsman, and with her ability she could quite quickly freeze time, and slice off the heads of a dozen or two walkers in the time frame it took for time to return to normal.

Meanwhile Olivia could call upon bolts of lightning from the sky to fry the Walkers that got too close to her and Elena. The two of them combined were a lethal combination as they eradicated hundreds of undead within the span of minutes together.

They were so effective that the sentries who they were supporting simply gawked in astonishment. Forgetting to fire their weapons at the wave after wave of undead which charged towards the settlement\'s makeshift walls.

Yet no matter how many times the undead approached the two beautiful women, their wave was annihilated before they could get anywhere near the walls.

It was a sea of blood as Elean continuously used her ability, and her Katana to decapitate that undead at a rate which while not comparable to Zane\'s was beyond superhuman from the perspective of the unawakened sentries who she and Olivia were protecting.

Perhaps if they had witnessed Zane\'s own impeccable feats, they would have fallen to their knees and worshipped the man as their god.

---

Eliza grinded her teeth in utter fury. She had no idea that when she attacked Gravestone with what remained of her horde that its denizens would be able to so adequately defend its territory. There were tens of thousands of walkers rushing at the walls, yet Zane and his girls were so efficient at slaughtering them it was almost laughable.

Perhaps if they had to be on high alert to the potential of multiple stalkers attacking them, or the dangers that Abominations posed through massive size and strength then the walls would have been breached by now. But Zaen and his girls were capable of one shotting Walkers which were level One undead.

Sure in such vast numbers they were a problem for a party of awakened survivors to deal with, but that\'s if they were surrounded in the streets. Here in Gravestone, Zane and his girls were fighting on their home turf, and that meant that they had a serious defensive advantage.

When combined with Zane and Madison\'s new equipment, as well as the relatively capable skills that their party all had at their disposal, twenty thousand undead were a dangerous threat to be sure, but one they were capable of defeating so long as they had a fortress to protect them, and the aid of other survivors.

While the un-awakened survivors would have been useless against even Tier II undead. Walkers were vulnerable to small arms fire, and ordinary melee weapons.

With the overwhelming number of military weapons scavenged from the ruins of the old world, and traded for with the denizens of New Reno, even the sentries who relied on such gadgets could deal a significant blow to the undead horde which gathered around the settlement\'s walls with very little room in between them.

With each passing minute Zane and his girls alone killed thousands of Walkers. While the second strike team was barely hanging onto their own line of defense. Knowing this, Eliza made a bold move and began to shift her forces from the walls which Zane and his girls defended to the areas where the second strike team was located.

As they were of much lower levels and had less capable skills. This was of course a desperate move, but at this point Eliza\'s horde, or what remained of it when she decided to attack Gravestone was damn near half of their initial numbers.

Because of this Eliza screamed at the top of her lungs, challenging the survivors of Gravestone to take her on.

"You little insects! Today you will understand the full might of a Horde King!"
