The Slacker Stepmother and the Non-Domineering CEO

Chapter 25: He Should Thank Me

Chapter 25

Even for the pre-surgery talk with the family, a row of coffee and pastries was laid out in front of Nian Suian.

Gu Junxing\'s surgery wasn\'t major; the doctor said it would take about two to three hours to complete, and the risks were relatively low.

However, nothing is absolute, and the process of informing about risks was still necessary. The doctor explained the surgical procedure and possible risks to Nian Suian in detail.

Afterward, he reassured her, "Don\'t worry, the risks for Mr. Gu\'s surgery are very small. The risks we\'ve mentioned are mostly theoretical; the chances of them actually occurring are minimal."

Nian Suian nodded in understanding and then signed her name on the surgical consent form.

The only immediate family members of Gu Junxing present were Nian Suian and Gu Zhijing. Since Gu Zhijing was still a minor, it wasn\'t appropriate to ask him to sign, so Nian Suian sent him off to have breakfast and didn\'t even call him in for the pre-surgery talk. The boy acted nonchalant and cocky on the surface, but in reality, he was more worried about his father than anyone else.

After the surgery began, Nian Suian, Gu Zhijing, and Butler Su waited outside, while the assistant returned to the company to handle matters.

Yes, at their request, Gu Junxing had agreed to rest for a month after the surgery and not deal with company affairs. The assistant went back today to reschedule Gu Junxing\'s appointments for the next month, delegating tasks that couldn\'t be postponed to other company leaders, and distributing the upcoming work to various departments.

Gu Junxing was hesitant at first. Since he started his business, he had hardly ever taken such a long break. He was uneasy about not being in charge for so long.

Finally, Gu Zhijing said, "If the company can\'t function without you for a month, then it doesn\'t deserve to exist."

Gu Junxing thought his son had a point. He could use this opportunity to assess everyone\'s capabilities, identify areas for improvement, and then optimize accordingly.

With this in mind, Gu Junxing resolved to take a good rest for a while. Before entering the operating room, he announced his one-month vacation in the company group chat and asked his assistant to return and arrange the work details.

"This surgery is very simple, without much risk, right?" Gu Zhijing stared at the operating room doors and said softly.

"Right." Nian Suian knew that Gu Zhijing wasn\'t really asking a question, but rather trying to reassure himself.

Nian Suian gently comforted him, "Don\'t worry too much. Your father is very healthy in all other aspects, maybe even healthier than you. The doctors are also very skilled, so relax."

"Actually, thinking about it carefully, my dad has had it pretty tough. He\'s been alone all these years. Grandpa and Grandma are old now, and apart from sending their regards, they can\'t really help Dad much. And then there\'s me, always causing him trouble when I was little. Even now, I often make him angry."

As soon as Gu Zhijing said this, the atmosphere instantly became heavy. Butler Su, standing nearby, even started wiping away tears after hearing these words.

Nian Suian couldn\'t bear to see this. She patted Gu Zhijing\'s shoulder and said, "Alright, save these words to tell your dad in person. Why are you being so dramatic here? This is just a minor surgery for your dad; your speech is a bit too heavy for the occasion." Then she turned to Butler Su, "And you, Butler Su! Why are you shedding tears? Your employer will be fine; he\'ll be out soon and up and about tomorrow."

After comforting both the old and the young, Nian Suian deeply felt that this family couldn\'t function without her.

Gu Junxing entered the operating room at 10 AM, and just past noon, the doctor came out to say the surgery was over. Everything went smoothly, and he could be moved back to the ward once the anesthesia wore off.

Hearing this, Nian Suian also breathed a sigh of relief. Although it was a minor surgery, it was still a surgery after all, and it was natural to feel nervous.

After thanking the doctor, they decided to return to the ward to wait, and have lunch in the meantime.

The food at Fengqiao Hospital was quite good, with cuisines from all over the world that could rival those of star-rated hotels. Moreover, meals could be ordered directly to the room, with dedicated staff delivering to the room.

As soon as they heard the surgery was successful, Butler Su happily went to call Nanny Zhang. Everyone at home was also concerned about their employer, Gu Junxing.

The timing was just right; their ordered food arrived at the same time Gu Junxing was brought in.

Gu Junxing had just woken up at this point, his eyes still looking very clear. He didn\'t have his usual sharp demeanor at all, appearing much more approachable. Even Nian Suian dared to lean in for a closer look.

For a man in his thirties, his skin was quite good. Nian Suian muttered to herself, then remembered that people who\'ve just woken up from general anesthesia are often confused and might talk nonsense. She looked into Gu Junxing\'s eyes and suddenly felt like playing a little prank.

"Gu Junxing, where are you?"

"Hospital." He didn\'t sound confused at all, his voice was very clear.

Nian Suian felt disappointed. She had hoped to record Gu Junxing talking nonsense and keep it as embarrassing evidence.

Hearing Nian Suian questioning his father, Gu Zhijing also leaned in to ask.

"Gu Junxing! Do you remember who I am?"

Nian Suian almost choked when she heard this. She thought to herself, your father has just woken up from anesthesia, at most his mind might be a bit foggy, he\'s not dead. This kid dares to call his father by name, his allowance for the next three years might just have vanished in an instant.

Gu Junxing resisted the urge to roll his eyes. He really didn\'t want to deal with his foolish son, so he simply kept his mouth shut.

"Ah! You don\'t recognize me?! Should we call the doctor? Has my dad become stupid from the anesthesia?"

Nian Suian thought Gu Zhijing was just joking around again, but his face showed genuine concern, worried that his father\'s brain had been affected by too much anesthesia.

Gu Zhijing would have been better off just joking; it was preferable to actually having brain issues.

"Shut up, Gu Zhijing." Gu Junxing couldn\'t bear it anymore.

"Oh! He can still scold me, looks like he\'s fine."

"Dad, do you want to eat? Are you hungry?" Gu Zhijing was a filial child, thinking of his father even with food just entering his own mouth.

"You eat yourself. Your dad can\'t eat now, he needs to pass gas first," Nian Suian educated the young Mr. Gu.

"What does \'passing gas\' mean?"

"Uh... it\'s farting."

"Nian Suian!" Gu Junxing felt a pain in his lungs and a throbbing in his head.

"Why are you shouting? I\'m just educating your son, what\'s wrong with farting? Is it taboo? I dare you not to fart!"

"Yeah, what\'s the big deal about farting?" Gu Zhijing chimed in. To prove his point, he even picked up his bowl and sat next to his father.

"What are you doing?"

"I\'m waiting to hear when you fart, so I can keep track for you!"

"..."

Gu Junxing was speechless, while Nian Suian felt quite pleased.

"What a good child! Gu Junxing, hurry up and thank your son!"
