A Beloved Wife in Marriage

Chapter 163 - 163: Happy New Year, Xiao Bai

It was Lu Yuan.

Jiang Yanshen put down the cup and picked up the call. His brows furrowed tighter and tighter. His throat rolled a few times before he finally said, “I understand…

After ending the call, he got up and rolled down his sleeves. He picked up his suit jacket and was about to leave.

Shen Zhiwei stood up to send him off. However, she swallowed her words in the end.

Once a person had an obsession, everything would be bitter.

No matter how much she said, it would be useless. Everything was bitter, and he had to overcome it himself.

It was already the end of the year. Other than the New Year’s Eve banquets of the major satellite channels, there were no other major events at the Spring Festival Gala.

The celebrities Shi Guang Studio collaborated with did not appear at the Spring Festival Gala. The gala on the satellite channel was recorded and after it ended, Lin Qingqian arranged for a break.

Lin Qingqian also received a call from Lin Chaoyan, asking if she was going back for the New Year.

Ever since she married Jiang Yanshen, she has spent the Spring Festival in Lan

City every year. Old Madam Jiang would give her red packet money during the New Year’s Eve dinner before going back to rest. Jiang Yanshen would always return to the study to work after the New Year’s Eve dinner every year, while Madam Jiang and Li Ruzhu went out to play. Hence, she was always alone and didn’t even have anyone to talk to.

Now that she had already divorced Jiang Yanshen, she naturally didn’t have to stay in Lan City for the new year. Thus, she readily promised her Auntie that she’d return to Yushan for the new year.

It was difficult to snatch a plane ticket for the Lunar New Year but Lin Qingqian managed to book a flight for the 29th of December.

On the 29th, she packed her things and went to the office in the morning to deal with some work. However, when she pushed open the door, she saw Han Liubai coming out to pour water.

“Xiao Bai, why didn’t you go back for the new year?” Lin Qingqian asked in surprise.

Han Liubai replied, “My parents are not around anymore. There aren’t many people at home. Besides, I’ve been overseas all this time so I don’t have any feelings about the holidays in China.”

Lin Qingqian blinked. “I see…”

After thinking for a moment, she bent down and took out a Chinese red scarf from her luggage. She opened it and stood on her tiptoes to put it around his neck. Then, she casually wrapped it around him.

Han Liubai’s skin was very fair. The red scarf made his skin look even fairer. His mouth and nose were covered, revealing a pair of pitch-black eyes that looked at her clearly.

“This is our custom. We must wear a little red durinz the New Year, be it red

scarves, gloves, or clothes.” Lin Qingqian’s eyes curved into a bridge as she said happily, “Xiao Bai, Happy New Year.”

Han Liubai touched the soft scarf and pulled it down. He smiled and said in a gentle voice, “Director Lin, Happy New Year.”

After Lin Qingqian packed her things and settled her matters, she and Han Liubai went to the cafeteria next door for lunch.

When Han Liubai found out that she was going to the airport, he kindly wanted to send her off.

Lin Qingqian declined politely. “I’ve called for a car. You should hurry home for the new year too. I won’t give you a raise even if you work so hard.” Han Liubai smiled and agreed gently.

Lin Qingqian then got into the car and waved him goodbye.

Han Liubai watched the car drive away and disappear from his sight. When he turned around, he saw a car parked by the roadside not far away.

The car window was half lowered, revealing a man’s eagle-like eyes, cold and sharp.

The smile on his lips grew wider, but there was no gentleness in it. His slender and good-looking fingers gathered the scarf around his neck, and his smiling eyes looked like they were filled with provocation as he glanced at the man in the car.

Then, he turned around and got into a black Cayenne.

Lin Qingqian took a three-hour flight and took two buses before finally arriving at Yushan when night fell.

Lin Chaoyan stood at the door and craned her neck to look around. When she saw Lin Qingqian, she immediately went forward to welcome her. “Aiyo, you’re finally willing to come back..”
